My Approach and How Healing Happens

Healing therapy lends itself to qualities of a healthy and trustworthy relationship. Working closely together in this professional human connection, you will examine your life, relationships, and choices.

The direction of therapy begins with listening to you. I also will inquire into life questions leading to a biographical understanding and insight. Sometimes, examining the past when an individual feels ready may occur.

Childhood and developmental experiences and circumstances may be reflected on, if that is what is necessary to heal. However, this is done only when and if you feel safe to discuss and share these aspects of your life. My approach is to work toward giving voice to your unique story, experiences and events with patience and compassion.

Besides upbringing and family history, other considerations to your life include cultural influences, environmental and social relationships. These also are areas of exploration in therapy as an attempt to examine contributing factors to your current challenges.

Through exploration, we develop goals.

Discovering your thoughts, feelings and emotions allows us to identify areas of growth and goals for your treatment. Through this process, inner expression will be released – which may have been withheld.

Your beliefs, values and visions for life will be examined as well. You will find out whether your beliefs need a “tune-up” or a definitive and healthier approach.

With a holistic approach to therapy, lifestyle, diet, exercise or movement, and stress reduction practices are other aspects of the therapeutic process. These are values of my approach which I use to impart on the quality of your life.

Improving relationships or developing healthier relationships may be your goal or occur as a byproduct of improving your own health.

We will work as a team to examine aspects that you bring to therapy.

Often, you may bring questions and direction of the therapy to the sessions. Writing or keeping in mind those thoughts and developments to the next visit are openly and graciously received. The direction of therapy is often free-flowing, and thus themes and discerning perceptions will be brought to light.

Difficult and complex issues may be brought up in sessions, and these may cause inner struggle and emotional pain.

Throughout the course of therapy, you may see patterns, behaviors and choices that deserve a voice. This voice allows unraveling the underlying issues causing this pain and suffering. Awareness of these patterns and choices helps you to move in a transformative way.

However, therapy is not easy and may bring up some painful experiences, feelings and emotions. Grappling with these complexities and those emotions are very much a part of the process of achieving the benefits of therapy.

Improvements may be profound in many areas of your life.

You will embrace those benefits – including personal growth, a higher quality of life and inner peace. You will be working toward improved relationships with partners, family, children and perhaps grandchildren.
